yeruham entrance sculpture | competition

Program: development of a design concept for a sculpture that will be built in the entrance of the city Yeruham (south Israel)

Concept: since ancient times, has been Yeruham a unique landmark in the Negev desert. The question that guided us in the design process was: "Why exactly there?" . The town was constructed in the Negev desert that extends (within Israel) an area of 13,000 square kilometers. Our conclusion was that the location was carefully chosen.

The word that we believe caused the town is "meeting". Multiple encounters were created throughout history and continue to be created, strengthened its specific position.

A meeting is a phenomenon in which two or more elements come together at a certain point forming one whole and then separate carrying the added value received. Yeruham of today is the product of these meetings.

Designing the entrance element of Yeruham we realized that it is not right to focus on one specific meeting. We decided to focus on the occurrence of multiple encounters as a rare phenomenon that is the basis for countless situations and represent values and differentiators of the city
