Program: development of a design concept for a solar tower shell

 

Concept: our proposal for the cladding of the solar tower in Ashelim seeks to examine the relation between the tower and its environment. The vertical dimension of the tower makes it the most dominant object in the region. We ask to challenge this dimension and its visibility through a cladding system of mirror panels that will move and will reflect the environment in several ways.

 

Thought the adjustment of the mirrors, several modes of reflections may emerge:

In one of them, the mirror will reflect the dunes such that the dominant color of the tower would be brown. 

Another option will allow the reflection of the sky such that the tower will merge with the horizon.

Additional option will allow the combination of the two colors as a gradient.

 

The cladding system and mechanical system for the movement of the panels will be constituted on the technology of the reflectors of the field around the tower. In this way, the field and the tower create a continuous surface, that even though have a different architectural function will be one unit.
